Angel Investor Funding

Definition

Angel investor funding is provided by wealthy (high net-worth individuals), who are active in business/venture financing.

Usually, they participate at a relatively early stage of the business' growth when it is difficult for the business owner to access bank finance. Angels typically fill the gap between what can be funded from small loans/overdrafts, etc, or home equity, or 'family, fools and friends', and the level where venture capital might kick in or the business might qualify for bank finance.

An Angel Investor will want to have a clear exit strategy from the business that could involve the business owner buying back the Angel's shares, or selling out to a Venture Capitalist once the business had grown sufficiently, or selling the business to a new owner.
